ORGANISERS of the inaugural Northgate Community Street Festival want to make it an annual event after it proved a popular part of the jubilee weekend celebrations.
Shopkeepers and publicans laid on stalls in Northgate Street on the June 4 bank holiday Monday when the road was closed to traffic.
There was also entertainment organised by Alexander’s Jazz Theatre Bar in the form of bands and local artists on the main and acoustic stages.
Alexander’s co-owner Rod Cox, who is also chair of the Northgate Traders Association, said: “So many people have spoken to me to congratulate us on the event, people now understand why we are striving for pedestrianisation on our street.”
He added: “Without the vision and imagination of our sponsors it would have been hard to get this project off the ground, having been such a success this year it will be easier to get people behind us next year.”
