A TALENTED ice skater from Chester has won her first competitive medal – despite being the youngest entrant.

Six-year-old Ellie Mai Gibson beat tough competition from girls two years her senior to win third prize at the Telford Open.

She was the only member of Deeside Ice skating Club to take part in the beginner girls class, alongside 23 other hopefuls.

Proud mum Lisa said: “I'm really, really proud. I can’t put it into words. Skating is her life.

“When I see her on the ice I think ‘I wish I could do that’.”

Ellie, a Year 2 pupil at the Firs School, Plas Newton Lane, Upton, took up the sport at the tender age of four and passed her level one test last month.

She trains four times a week at Deeside ice skating rink under coach Pamela Richardson.
