CHESTER is proving to be a spectacular draw for tourists, with a reported 300% increase in train bookings to the city.
Virgin Trains has seen a 32% increase in bookings on the same period last year, confirming that ‘staycations’ are the trend for 2009.
But Chester has become a new favourite, seeing a massive 300% increase in bookings as visitors flock to the city from all over the UK for cosmopolitan city breaks.
Virgin are offering the chance for families to travel in style this summer as they will be able to upgrade to first class on Saturdays and Sundays from £5 per child and £15 per adult for a single journey.
Jim Rowe, senior communications manager at Virgin Trains, said: “With the children’s summer holiday fast approaching it can be a difficult task choosing a destination that will appeal to all the family. However with the varied mix of city and country destinations so readily available, families are spoilt for choice.”
