A SCHOOLGIRL from Chester attended a presentation ceremony in the Potteries after designing an award-winning cup and saucer for the Queen as a Diamond Jubilee gift.

Becky McGrath, nine, from Hoole, was the winner in the junior category.

She will see her winning designs produced and enjoy a trip to Buckingham Palace later this month to hand them over to the royal household.

Becky joined 18 finalists at the Potters’ Club in Stoke-on-Trent, where they were presented with their prizes by Kevin Oakes, chairman of the British Ceramic Gift and Tableware Manufacturers’ Association (BCGTMA), who formed part of the competition judging panel, and Dr Laura Cohen, chief executive of the British Ceramic Confederation.

Becky is a pupil of Newton Primary School, which will also be presented with a cheque for £2,500 to be spent on books and equipment, courtesy of the British Ceramic Confederation.
