A 10-year-old boy was reportedly approached by a man who offered him a lift home as he was playing with his friends in a Chester park.

The youngster refused the offer and ran home after the alleged incident on Limewood Playing Fields, Kingsway , on September 12.

But it has prompted Upton-by-Chester High School to email the parents and carers of pupils to remind their children to be 'extra vigilant when walking to and from school and wherever possible travel together with friends'.

Cheshire police confirmed that they had received a report relating to the alleged incident, but that no further information was disclosed.

A force spokesman said: "Officers remind anyone who sees suspicious behaviour should contact police on 101."

Upton High School's email also refers to another report of 'stranger danger' near Newton Primary School at around 6.30pm on Monday (October 3), when a man of medium height was spotted acting suspiciously while a community football club hosted a session on the school playing field.

He is said to have 'moved on rapidly' before being approached.

Cheshire police, however, say they have no record of this being reported to them.
