Supporters of Samaritans in Chester were on their best behaviour when they gathered to raise funds, enjoy afternoon tea and be entertained by former TV presenter Diana Mather.

Diana, who is now an etiquette expert, gave a fascinating talk about her work across the globe that included tips on good posture, how to network successfully when meeting new people and the history of afternoon tea.

Delicate sandwiches, generous slices of cake and, of course tea, were provided by Samaritan volunteers, Hard Core Caterers.

All funds raised go to keep the Chester branch of Samaritans open and operating 365 days a year.

Diana Mather said: “Samaritans is a fantastic organisation, it helps so many people who don’t know where to turn. One of my colleagues at The English Manner is a listening Sam so I am particularly delighted to be invited to talk at this event.”

Director Samaritans’ Chester branch Jane Howarth said: “We really appreciate Diana Mather giving her time to support our branch. It costs approximately £75 per day to keep our branch open and we know that every six seconds someone contacts Samaritans. Thank you to our supporters and volunteers who enable us to keep offering our listening service.”
