HANNAH JONES put in a right royal effort on Bank Holiday Monday last week to raise even more funds for brain cancer research.

Hannah, Molly and friends were packing bags at Sainsbury’s in Caldy Valley on Monday, August 31 to add to the £140,000 that she has already raised for the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust, Alder Hey Hospital’s Imagine Appeal, her own Hannah and other brain cancer charities.

Sainsbury’s staff member John Downham flew to the USA on Tuesday (September 6), to take part in a 2,800 mile cycle from San Diego to Georgia to raise even more cash.

He said: “I first met Hannah when she started fundraising at the store.”

The 24-year old keen cyclist added: “I was planning to do the bike ride as a holiday and then thought I may as well try to raise funds for a good cause as well.”

A map charting John’s progress throughout the 26-day ordeal will be on display at the Caldy Valley store, where people will be able to donate.

“I hope to raise at least £1,000,” he said. “And Sainsbury’s have pledged to match-fund my efforts so whatever I raise will be doubled.”
