A SPORTS-mad rugby player is hoping to share his passion with the world with a little help from his Chester teammates.

Gareth Martin, who plays for Chester RUFC, has developed a new smart phone application (app) which lets avid rugby fans keep up with every drop-kick and scrum while they are on the go.

Now the sports mad 31-year-old is celebrating after his Rugby Dump app – after the popular website – scored more than 5,000 hits in the first 12 hours following its online launch last week.

Gareth, a former Upton High School student, explained that the smart phone application, designed for use on Android and iPhone, was developed using the ideas and expert advice of his teammates, coaches and friends in Chester.

Gareth, who has lived in Chester all his life, said: “As the World Cup is being held in New Zealand this year many of us will be at work so there will not be much of an opportunity to watch it.

“It will save fans from being stuck or having to record the matches, as it provides live updates with stats, forums, live voting and even games straight to their smart phone.

“I have played rugby ever since I was a kid, it is an exciting and exhilarating sport. I would say that my sporting background has helped me to be very focused in business and helped me to work more proactively with other people.”

Gareth, who plays for Chester RUFC and works for Rome Online based in Dee Hills Park, Chester, said that he wanted to keep professional and local influence in the app.

Now following the success of the first few weeks the rugby player is hoping that his new business will catch the attention of rugby fans across the world.

“I hope that this will be the perfect app for every rugby lover, when we launched it we expected a quiet couple of days on the market but the figures shot through the roof.

“We will have to see what happens, but there is no better time with the technology to try this than right now.”
