The Santa Dash makes a triumphant return to Chester on Sunday (December 4).

Now in its sixth year, the feel-good event in aid of the Countess of Chester Hospital's Babygrow Appeal and the Hospice of the Good Shepherd will see hundreds of Father Christmas lookalikes sprint and stroll through the city centre.

Traffic will be prohibited in areas from 9.30am for up to two hours.

So whether you'll be dashing the city streets or lining them to watch, or even heading in to do a spot of Christmas shopping, here's what you need to know before setting off.

Where will be closed and when?

The following roads will close at 9.30am for a maximum duration of one hour:

  • Castle Drive – Little Roodee Car Park to Lower Bridge Street
  • The whole length of Lower Bridge Street
  • Handbridge/Old Dee Bridge – Lower Bridge Street to Mill Street

The temporary traffic order will also close the following roads at 9.30am for a maximum duration of two hours.

  • The whole length of Grosvenor Street
  • The whole length of Pepper Street
  • The whole length of Little St John Street
  • The whole length of Vicars Lane
  • The whole length of Souters Lane
  • The whole length of Dee Lane
  • The whole length of Grosvenor Park Terrace
  • The whole length of The Groves
  • Northgate Street – Princess Street to Eastgate Street
  • The whole length of St Werburgh Street
  • The whole length of Eastgate Street
  • The whole length of St John Street
  • Foregate Street – Eastgate Street to Love Street
  • The whole length of Bridge Street
  • Watergate Street – Bridge Street to Nicholas Street/St Martins Way

Pedestrian access to premises situated on or adjacent to the roads will be maintained at all times.
