Take Me Out star Paddy McGuinness has been filming in Chester city centre for an episode of his new car show along with Lord John Prescott famously known as ‘two Jags’.

The former deputy prime minister, who grew up in Chester, is a guest on Paddy’s show Drive of My Life (working title) where he reunites a celebrity with three of their most beloved cars from their youth.

So Lord Prescott was naturally captured perusing a classic Jag in Northgate Street along with Paddy. Although Lord Prescott has always insisted his ‘two Jags’ nickname is misleading because the second Jag was the ministerial vehicle that came with his job when he was in government.

Northgate Street will evoke strong emotions and memories for Lord Prescott. It was once home to Quaintways – now Rosie’s nightclub – where his wife Pauline used to work as a hairdresser within a complex that featured not only a hairdressing salon but a bustling food hall and ballroom.

The couple, who met in 1957, when he was 19 and she was 18, loved dancing and going to jazz clubs which was how they became friends with Gordon Vickers, owner of The Mill Hotel, who promoted musical acts in Chester.

The location for Wednesday's (April 27) filming was coincidentally close to The Commercial Hotel run by Paddy’s old pal John Locke. Twitter member Leesa Orton, from Frodsham, kindly shared her pictures of the scene with The Chronicle and conversed with Paddy on social media about how cold Chester was that day.

Paddy’s Drive of My Life show is scheduled to air on the Travel Channel this autumn.

Each week Paddy and a well-known face take a nostalgic look back at the some of the stories that shaped their life. They track down old friends and reminisce about the quirks of their early cars.

Paddy said: “You’ll always remember your first car and the memories that come with it – that sense of adventure! I vividly remember mine, the mark2 Escort and I can’t wait to uncover our celebrities’ old run arounds and the stories behind each one.”
