A CHESTER restaurant had to be evacuated after an electrical fault caused a small fire to break out.

Diners at Chez Jules on Northgate Street had their meals interrupted after the fire alarm was raised at about 10pm last night (Tuesday, January 10) when flames appeared to be coming out of the electric meter.

The blaze was extinguished by the resutaurant manager before crews arrived, but trading had to stop for the night, due to the lack of electricity supply.

Crew manager Gareth Scott said it was ‘very important’ to use the correct type of fire extin guisher when attempting to put out a blaze yourself.

“If anyone uses a fire extinguisher, it is very important to use the right one, for example, in electrical fires, carbon dioxide extinguishers should be used and liquid fires should be put out with dry powder or foam,” he said.
