CANVASSERS are about to visit households who haven't yet returned their electoral registration forms.
From this week they will be knocking on doors to collect the information required as part of the annual voter registration process.
If you are not at home, a reminder will be posted through the letterbox.
Residents who fail to register risk facing a £1,000 fine. They will be unable to vote and also risk damaging their credit rating.
The closing date for inclusion on the new register is November 14.
Electoral team leader Gina Jones said: “The majority of residents have already returned their forms by post or registered by telephone, internet or text message.
“But there is still a large number of households we haven't heard from. It is these homes that our canvassers will be visiting.”
If a canvasser knocks on your door, first check their ID badge to be sure they are who they say they are.
They will then go through the details on the form with you to check if they are correct.
If they are incorrect, the canvasser will make the necessary changes with you.
By law households must provide this information to their local authority every year.
If you have lost your form, please telephone 01244 977084 as soon as possible to request a replacement.
