CHESTER Business Club is hoping to break records by getting more people than ever before to don their walking boots and join this year’s charity walk.

The walk, which will be held on May 8, will see businesses, families and residents come together for the morning six mile walk from Chester Racecourse, along The Meadows and ending at The Groves, all in the name of charity.

Chester Business Club raised more than £10,000 last year through the generosity of the walkers and their supporters and hopes that this event, in association with lead sponsor Grosvenor Shopping Centre, will be bigger and better than ever before.

Local charities being supported include Mum’s Chums, Christleton-based Children Today and the Multiple Sclerosis Support Centre in Saltney.

For a £10 registration fee for over-16s, walkers will be treated to four breaks along the way including a bacon butty stop, choc stop, orange juice and more adult refreshments at a gin and tonic stop.

Children aged under 16 will get refreshments for free and there will be a number of fun activities for them along the way, sponsored by the Wildlife Trust.

Chairman of the CBC Charity Walk committee, Peter Humphreys, said: “This is a great opportunity for people from all walks of life across our city to come together to support some key local charities.

“It isn’t a difficult hike but is a fun six-mile Sunday morning stroll and, with the activities that we’ve planned for the day, including special prizes for the child’s treasure hunt winners, this will be a great day out for all the family that will hopefully raise a record-breaking amount and help benefit some key local causes.”

Julie Webb, general manager of Grosvenor Shopping Centre, said: “Grosvenor Shopping Centre is always keen to support community initiatives and local organisations. We are delighted to have the opportunity of sponsoring the Chester Business Club’s Charity Walk, and to play our part in supporting such very worthy charitable causes.”

Walkers’ names will also be put into a draw to win prizes including tickets for Chester Races for a family of four and a case of wine, donated by Bibendum Wines.
