Racegoers headed to Chester’s Roodee on Sunday to enjoy a family fun day.

More than 30,000 enjoyed the day of seven races, including the listed Manor House Stables Queensferry Stakes race and a notable win for Tom Dascombe and jockey Richard Kingscote on Hillbilly Boy.

Groups of families, friends and racing enthusiasts alike enjoyed a host of free activities and the pop-up beach, complete with buckets and spades and giant palm trees.

Performances from local dance troupe Razzamataz and live music from The Mac Bros kept everyone entertained between races.

Kids had great fun putting their colouring in skills to the test on a giant colouring wall which proved so popular hardly any white space was left as the day drew to a close.

Racecourse Partners, MBNA hosted a junior football tournament in the Parade Ring between Liverpool FC and Chester FC and were cheered on by racegoers in the hour before the first race.

Chester Race Company chief executive Richard Thomas and ex-footballer Michael Owen of Manor House Stables culminated the tournament, with a presentation and all participants were awarded medals for their involvement and a trophy went to the winning team.

Race sponsors, The Lowry, brought along Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and racegoers were able to have their photo taken with the famous car in the Paddock area.

The next race meeting at Chester is the popular Ladies Day fixture on Saturday, August 20.

Tickets start at £12 for adults on the Open Course and children under 17 go free with a full paying adult.
