Ladies will be out in their finery, the sun is due to shine and the ground will be quickening throughout the afternoon.

Everything is set fair for day two of the Boodles May Festival at Chester Racecourse and the stands at the Roodee will be packed once again.

If you're lucky enough to have a ticket for Boodles Ladies Day, or if you're planning to watch on TV, you'll want to have a flutter or two.

So here's The Chester Chronicle's racing correspondent Beverley Dee with her top tips for today's races (May 5).

2.10pm Gateley Plc Original Legal Thinking Handicap Stakes (over one mile and two furlongs): Our selection is DARSHINI, a winner over the trip last month, who represents top Newmarket combination trainer Sir Micheal Stoute and jockey Ryan Moore.

2.40pm Betway Huxley Stakes for the Tradesman's Cup (one mile two furlongs): The selection is WESTERN HYMN, trained by in-form John Gosden and ridden by the evergreen Frankie Dettori.

3.10pm MBNA Chester Vase (one mile four furlongs). This race is for three-year-old colts aiming to win the ultimate prize for thoroughbreds, the Epsom Derby, next month. Our selection is US ARMY RANGER, who won readily one his debut at The Curragh four weeks ago and has the profile to go off a short priced favourite.

3.45pm Boodles Diamond Handicap (seven furlongs). Our pick is DARK DEVIL. All runs have been over seven furlongs, never out of the frame, the latest when winning at Redcar.

4.20pm Betway EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes (five-furlongs): Go for REDROSEZORRO, who has the advantage of the inside draw and will have worked round a bend at trainer Eric Alston's yard.

4.55pm Perfection Secrets Handicap (six furlongs): The pick here is KINGSLEY KLARION. Watch jockey Franny Norton bounce out of stall one and play 'catch me if you can' with the other runners.

5.25pm T&L Leasing Handicap (one mile two furlongs). The selection is BURANO, who has proved difficult to win with. However, trainer David O'Meara has the horse race-fit to round off day two.
