CHESTER Racecourse is to once again fall under the spell of the Roman era as its hugely popular Roman Day Races arrives at the Roodee on Saturday.
Roman Day will start with the Crabbie Spiffing Maiden Stakes at 2.30pm. The feature race of the day, the Tsingtao Chinese Beer Handicap Stakes (Class 2) at 4.05pm.
During Roman Day, there will be chariot races and stunt rides on the Open Course in between each race to keep the crowds entertained.
Spectators will be treated to an amazing performance of horse drawn chariot races, which will travel at speeds of over 30 mph during the exciting races.
Also featured will be jaw dropping stunts performed by some of the best reinactment stuntmen in the UK, The Devil’s Horseman.
With the gates opening at 11.30pm, racegoers will see a number of Roman Legions placed around the Roodee, dressed to impress in authentic Roman clothing and equipment.
There will be the opportunity to capture the day on camera as racegoers are invited to have their picture taken with the Romans so they can remember the day and take home a snapshot of the spectacle to friends and family.
As well as Romans there will be additional free family entertainment on the open course including Mr Alexander’s Performing Act and bouncy inflatables for the children.
