A NEW fixture on Chester racecourse’s summer calendar drew in 23,000 people.

Ladies Day on Saturday drew in the highest racecourse attendance on the day in the UK,

Chief executive Richard Thomas said: “Because of the unique feature of our track and the atmosphere it creates with such exciting racing people will always be drawn to Chester but lately we have worked very hard on raising the level of our own in-house catering, adding race day attractions like free bus transport from the railway station.

“Fashion shows, Roman days and themes that look to entertain every demographic within our audience and at the moment it appears to be working.

“I have to say that the racecourse had a real buzz on Saturday, with the Chester Rocks girls offering spot prizes, the local Chester bands being interviewed and of course the effort the ladies went to in dressing up made for a very special day”

Clerk of the course Ed Gretton said: “I think all those associated with racing are beginning to understand we are in the entertainments business and at Chester we really seem to be connecting with our audience. I hope it continues”.

The theming continues at the Racecourse when, on Friday June 24, when the stars of Hollyoaks visit the Roodee on Ladies Evening to judge the best dressed lady competition where the winners will share £2,000 worth of prizes June from the Trafford Centre.

It’s a double header that weekend with another Saturday meeting on June 25.
