CITY of Chester Band's first baritone Aine Jackson has picked up two trophies at her school's music festival.

The Chester Queen’s School student, also a member of the Cheshire County and National Youth Brass Bands, won the Gillian Church Cup for brass instrumentalists and also gained the runners-up prize for overall music instrumentalist within the school.

After her triumphs at the music festival, Aine joined City of Chester Band as they rehearsed Saint-Saens Variations in preparation for their performance in the regional contest at Blackpool on March 14.

This test-piece for bands in the fourth section of the competition is based upon themes from Saint-Saëns’ Symphony No 3 (Organ Symphony), arranged by Philip Sparke.

A placing within the first three would entitle the band to play at the national finals in Harrogate in September.

Aine graduated to the City of Chester Band after playing in Chester Brass, the band's training ensemble.
