A SPECIAL radio advertisement will be aired on Monday involving children from Chester’s Overleigh St Mary’s Church of England Primary urging pupils across Cheshire to walk to school.

The rap, to promote national Power Up Walk to School month, will be played during the school run on three commercial radio stations – Dee106.3, Silk FM and Cheshire FM.

Headteacher Elaine Devine said: “We were delighted to be asked to take part in the recording of the Walk to School Rap.

“It gave the children an excellent insight into the way music can be used to persuade people to make healthy choices.”

The rap will be heard on the three radio stations from October 6-17, encouraging walking to school whatever the weather.

Cheshire’s Executive Member for Highways and Transportation Eveleigh Moore-Dutton said: “Walking to school has so many benefits for everyone involved.

“It not only eases congestion outside school gates which is very important at the start and end of the school day, but is also good exercise for everyone involved and is also good for the environment as well.”
