A PRE-SCHOOL originally formed to support military families in Chester has received a satisfactory report from Ofsted.

Inspectors visited the Sunshine Under Fives Centre, at the Dale, on Percival Road, last month and described the pre-school as welcoming and progressive.

The report rewarded Sunshine Under Fives a grading of satisfactory for its quality of provision for the 29 children enrolled at the pre-school, based a Dale Army Camp in Moston.

Although children are described as being “settled”, the report claims there is “a considerable amount of disruptive behaviour.”

It continues: “Most children are happy and gaining in confidence. They settle to the routines of the day and independently make choices from the resources available.

“They happily initiate their own learning, as they select materials to create collages or role play.

“Most behave well and respond to simple instructions from staff. Many are beginning to be independent.”

The centre, which supports children with special educational needs and disabilities and those who speak English as an additional language, was also praised for the improvements made since Ofsted’s previous inspection in July last year.

Practice manager Tina Jenkins-Cambell said: “We are extremely pleased with our latest Ofsted report as it is a reflection on all the hard work the staff have put in and it is an outcome we hope to maintain or better by the time the next one comes along.

“It has come at a very exciting time for us as we have also just been given a grant to extend the garden area and put some all-weather surface down so the children can experience more outdoor play whatever the weather.”
