Chester Polo team have won the Roodee Challenge Cup on home ground in the final matches of the season at Chester Racecourse.

The Stella Artois team of Richard Thomas, Kelvin Johnson, Cristian Chaves and Charlie Waltonbeat  beat Znap (Jonny Coddington. Paul Thomason, John Martin and Ben Eeley) 9-3.  The home team went into the tournament as favourites, having picked-up five trophies already during the season.

The Roodee Challenge Cup, which offers one of the largest prize funds for 8-goal polo in the country, ran alongside the coveted Audi International contested by England and the ‘Rest of the World’.   England were the victors, winning 8-6 in five chukkas.

Luke Tomlinson captained the England team and his brother Mark Tomlinson wore the Number Two shirt. Also selected were Nacho Gonzalez, who has donned an England shirt on numerous occasions, and Henry Fisher, who was making his debut for the national team at this level.

The Rest of the World team was led by Glen Gilmore, captain of the Australian team who was joined by Pepe Riglos, Jonny Good and Manuel Plaza de Ayala from Argentina.

Luke said: "Great Audi event at Chester Racecourse. Well done to everyone for making it happen!! Great end to the Audi Series."

The weekend events concluded the second Audi International Polo Series at Chester Racecourse Polo Club.
