LUCKY children who unwrapped new bikes at Christmas are being urged to keep them safe from thieves.

Following a recent increase in bike thefts across the city police are holding a number of cycle marking days to help owners to secure their property from light fingered thieves.

Officers are urging parents and children to come along to the events at Blacon Police Station to get their new bikes registered, so that if they are stolen police will have more chance of returning them to their original owner.

Sergeant Ian Wilson, community beat sergeant for Blacon, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to register their new bikes they have had for Christmas or a bike they have not got round to registering.”

The bike registration days will be run by PCSO Jo Pendrey and will take place at Blacon Police Station on: Saturday, January 12, and Sunday, January 13, from 11am-2pm and Saturday, January 26, and Sunday, January 27, from 11am-2pm.

Anyone who wishes to come along to the events will need to know the make, model, frame size, frame number and colour of their bike. All of this information can be found on the bike.
