A PLANE enthusiast was left feeling on top of the world after being invited onboard her favourite aircraft by bosses at Manchester Airport.

Rosemary Bate, 71, of Vicars Cross Road, Vicars Cross, visits Manchester Airport’s Aviation Viewing Park every weekend to see Cathay Pacific’s 747 jumbo jet and after writing a writing a letter the airport fixed it for her to meet the pilots of the freight plane.

She said: “I have felt like an excitable child at the thought of having a look around the aircraft, it really has made my dreams come true.”

“I wrote a letter to Manchester Airport asking for them to act as Jimmy Saville to fix this meeting for me but never expected I would get a response let alone a face to face meeting set up.

“I have actually never been on a plane in my whole life so I really enjoy coming to the airport at the weekend for the excitement of seeing the aircraft take off and land.

“I have been interested in the Cathay Pacific cargo plane as it is so large I can’t comprehend the skill and talent it must take in landing it.”

Bosses at Manchester Airport were keen to help make Rosemary’s dream a reality and arranged a meeting between Rosemary and Captain John Rands on board the large aircraft, which was later heading to Hong Kong, last week.

Andrew Cornish, Manchester Airport’s managing director, said: “We do lots of work with the communities around the airport but this was a particularly unusual request.

“I am very pleased we were able to fix it so Mrs Bate got to live out her dream and I’m glad that she enjoyed it.”
