A DETERMINED paramedic will repeat a fundraising 15 peak challenge in memory of his late mum after succumbing to illness on the first attempt.

James Moores and his NHS colleagues had completed two thirds of the Welsh 3000s trek in North Wales when he could go no further due to a stomach bug.

But James, 35, who is based at Chester and Milton Green ambulance stations, does not give up easily and will do his late mum Denise proud by having another go next month.

James is generating cash for St John’s Hospice at Clatterbridge Hospital, Wirral, where his mother, a Chester-based district nurse for 20 years, died from cancer last September aged 62.

James, whose team has already raised £640, said: “I couldn’t fault them. It was phenomenal the care she got and not only my mum but the whole family was treated with kindness.

“That’s something that always stuck in my mind.”

James, who lives in Neston with wife Debbie and their five-month-old infant, was joined on the expedition by paramedics Dave Paull and Paul Jones as well as A&E consultant Nick Lundy from the Countess. Support driver was James Burton, an ambulance technician.

The team had walked for more than 13 hours when forced to abandon the task due to James’ illness which laid him low for a week.

They had faced terrible weather conditions with driving rain, visibility of under two metres at times and even a hail storm.

Explaining his desire to finish the mountain mission, James added: “If I set myself a goal I’ve got to complete it.”
