A SHOP closed due to repair works on the Rows in Chester has relocated to keep trading.

The Panasonic shop and Sayers outlet were at the centre of the dramatic closure of Bridge Street four weeks ago as engineers feared a rotten beam put the building in immediate danger of collapse.

Since then scaffolding has been erected to stabilise the site and all the shops closed initially have reopened apart from Sayers and Panasonic.

Panasonic has now relocated to St Michael’s Row to continue trading while repair work takes place.

Panasonic store co-manager David Pinnington, 32, said: “We will be here for about a month while work is carried out.

“It’s not a permanent move as it is too small to stay here.

“Grosvenor has been very good. They have kept us updated and are providing signage to say we are trading here in the short term.”

A Grosvenor Estate spokeswoman said: “Work continues apace on the repair and rebuilding of 13 Bridge Street and 15 Bridge Street Row.

“The affected load-bearing beam has now been replaced and the brick facade above it rebuilt.

“Once the mortar has dried the next stage will be to remove the steel supporting pins that are strapped through the building.

“We aim to have the scaffolding currently obstructing the row level and the internal support scaffolding removed by Tuesday.

“Bridge Street should be back to normal by the beginning of April.”

Grosvenor Estate resident agent Nick Jones added: “We were pleased to be able to help facilitate, with the support of the Grosvenor Shopping Centre, a temporary relocation of the Panasonic business into St Michael’s Row.”
