A £500,000 REVAMP of a well known Chester nightclub could prompt a return to the name of Rosie’s.
Despite his best efforts, manager Dave Cooper has never been able to persuade clubbers to adopt the shortened form of ‘RB’s’ taken from the full name of Rosie O’Brien’s, which used to adorn the signage.
Now Dave is hoping to persuade new owners Stonegate Pub Company to go back to the ‘Rosie’s’ name as part of a refurbishment he is close to securing from his bosses.
And a poll on the RB’s Facebook site shows an overwhelming majority of people seem to agree with the proposed change.
Dave said: “My gut feeling is it should be called Rosie’s. I’m not a defeatist but I’ve had to accept it. The most powerful thing for me is when you have youngsters who abbreviate everything but who, for whatever reason, on Facebook and texts, don’t use the shortened form of ‘RB’s’ but type in ‘Rosie’s’.”
The refurbishment will focus on the middle floor because the bottom and top storeys were revamped two years ago.
There will be a massive LED wall behind the stage which will feature animated graphics. And Mr Cooper is hopeful he can secure funding for a ‘karaoke pod’ which would be bookable for up to 12 friends to sing along to their favourite tunes.
Mr Cooper said it would be a private booth where those who felt self-conscious singing in front of strangers could ‘sing their hearts out’ in the company of friends.
The refurbishment would also include new seating areas, booths and bars. Other floors would get new carpets.
It is hoped that work could start in July if the revamp gets the go-ahead.
