DELIA Smith provided the inspiration for a special competition at the Upton United Reformed Church Christmas fair.
Men from church families were challenged to bake a traditional Victoria sponge from Delia’s recipe book and the winner was Peter Pleasance.
Chester MP Stephen Mosley officially opened the festive event which was held on the church’s anniversary weekend.
Rev Sarah Simpson said: “We were really pleased when Mr Mosley said he could come and we appreciated the length of time he stayed.”
The fair raised £1,700 for church funds.
