Chester MP Chris Matheson is trading places this Sunday evening when he gets to ask the public the tough questions for a change.

Chris has kindly agreed to be quiz master at The Carlton Tavern in Handbridge when the pub takes part in ‘The World’s Biggest Quiz’ – a Guinness world record attempt that aims to raise £1m for good causes.

The Carlton is among 1,432 pubs, clubs and hotels taking part in exactly the same quiz, at the same time, across the UK,

Celebrities and public figures are hosting at many of the venues.

The Carlton will be raising funds for Eccleston-based BIRD, a charity that treats children and adults with conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy, communication disorders, ADHD, stroke, dyslexia, dyspraxia, behavioural disorders and other neurological impairments.

Charity manager Helen Schielke said: “For many of the people we have been able to help, it was thought that no further improvement was possible.

Improving lives

"Thankfully we can nearly always markedly improve the lives of the people who come to us; often to an amazing extent. We can only achieve this thanks to the generosity of our supporters.

“The money generously raised by The Carlton Tavern and its customers will directly help local families who attend the centre in Eccleston for treatment.”

Debbie Miller, manager at The Carlton, said: “It’s really good of Chris to give up his spare time for a brilliant local charity. He agreed straight away when we asked him. We are expecting a really busy, fun night.”

The big night takes place this Sunday, February 7, with the first question being read out at 7.30pm in Chester and across the nation.

Please reserve yourself a table at the quiz by phoning Debbie on 07896 500934.
