A MIDWIFE dedicated to helping mums-to-be to stop smoking has won an award in recognition of her work.

Lynne Evans set up a dedicated programme to help pregnant women, their partners and families quit smoking with the support of West Cheshire NHS Stop Smoking Service.

Due to her hard work and commitment, midwives in West Cheshire now routinely refer all pregnant women smokers to stop smoking services.

Lynne, 28, of Hoole, received the Smokefree Pregnancy Award from Smokefree North West, at an awards ceremony in Manchester earlier this month.

She said: “I’m really pleased that not only my work but the work of my entire team at West Cheshire NHS Stop Smoking Service has been recognised. It’s very important that pregnant women have access to information and specialist support to enable them to make an informed decision about quitting smoking during their pregnancy. Stopping smoking during your pregnancy is the single biggest thing you can do to improve your health and that of your unborn baby.”

Smokers who want to quit with professional support can contact the NHS stop smoking service on 0800 0435134.
