A CHESTER man has embarked on a remarkable 1,000 charity mile cycle from Spain to Chester - in only two weeks – inspired by his close friend’s illness.
Jack Yates, 29 - along with his brother Sam and two friends – started his ride in Bilbao in Northern Spain on July to cycle back to his hometown of Chester via France and Wales.
All riders have chosen to donate money raised to individual charities close to their hearts.
Jack chose Ataxia UK due to his best friend, Kate Hingley, suffering from Friedreich's Ataxia - an inherited disease that causes progressive damage to the nervous system.
In addition to the fact that none of the riders has been cycling for long, the group decided to impose a two week time limit to complete the rider and they’re set to finish two days ahead of schedule.
Jack Yates said: “There seems to be little awareness of the Ataxia UK charity and the disease itself which is frustrating.
“Having initially pondered running the London marathon to raise money for the charity I decided, rather than sticking to one city, a 1,000 mile cycle challenge across Europe would be more adventurous.”
