A CROWN Court judge has jailed a Chester man for having more than 15,900 indecent images and videos of children on his computer.
Robert Brown, of Hereward Road, Boughton, had pleaded guilty to all 23 counts of possessing, making and distributing indecent images of children and attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child under 16.
Prosecuting Peter Frost told the court Brown, 41, had 9,000 images on his computer at level one - the lowest grade of indecent images - 1,300 at level two, 2,200 at level three, more than 3,000 images at level four and 260 at level five, the most serious images.
Frost told the court the first count relates to a specified offence, a video lasting 17 minutes of the most serious in nature of a young person aged between 13 and 15 being forcefully raped.
Counts two to 16 are for owning indecent images of children, counts 17 to 20 relate to him distributing images. Count 21 relates to him sharing images through a file sharing system on his computer.
Count 22 relates to Brown communicating with a child through email and mobile phone and persuading her to send indecent images of herself, and count 23 relates to him sending indecent images of himself.
Defending Gareth Parry said: “What is clear is there has been no face to face contact between Mr Brown and any young person. There is something about him that has stopped him from going that stage further, it still has an element of fantasy.”
Judge Roger Dutton said despite there being no face to face contact with a child, Brown had started communicating with children through e-mail.
He said to Brown: “It is to your credit that you pleaded guilty at the first available opportunity, but it concerns me that it could have gone a stage further and that you could have started committing the abuse yourself.”
Brown was sentenced to three years in prison, and made subject to a sexual offences prevention order which will last his lifetime.
