A 48-year-old man has been handed a two-year prison sentence for assaulting a police officer and a CCTV operator in Chester city centre last year.

Colin Dickinson, of Watergate Street, Chester, was sentenced on February 4, following the attack on Princess Street on December 15, 2014, which left the officer with facial injuries.

Chief Insp Derek Lockie, divisional commander for the Chester area, said: "This man has subjected an officer to a particularly nasty and violent assault and then gone on to attack another man who had gone to his aid.

"Whilst incidents such as this are rare in Chester, any assault is taken seriously by Cheshire police and we will not tolerate attacks on members of the public or police officers anywhere in Cheshire."
