CHESTER Little Theatre is looking for actors who are up for a laugh.

The Newtown-based drama club is auditioning new members for a September production of the classic Oliver Goldsmith comedy She Stoops To Conquer.

An informal reading of the play will take place at the theatre on Gloucester Road on Tuesday, June 14, at 8pm, when all are welcome, and open auditions will be held on Thursday, June 16, at 7.30pm.

The production itself will run from September 17-24.

The farce follows the fortunes of two young bucks, a collection of country gentry and bumpkins. The main character is the over-educated Marlow, who is shy in the presence of young ladies.

Other characters are his more confident friend Hastings, love interests Kate and Constance, practical joker Tom Lumpkin, and Sir Charles Marlow. There are a number of small roles for servants, an inn landlord and his patrons.

Chester Little Theatre has produced five or six full-length plays each year since 1944. The company boasts a raked auditorium seating 126 people, an adaptable stage with full technical facilities and a large wardrobe of costumes from all periods. The play will be directed by one of the club’s most experienced and respected directors, Jane Barth.
