CHESTER Lions Club’s Guy Fawkes firework extravaganza this year will be a right royal celebration.

Themed on the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the red, white and blue fireworks promise to get the celebrations going with a bang.

And organisers are looking for talented young artists to help spread the word about the fun family event at Chester Racecourse on Saturday, November 3.

Children, aged up to 16, are invited to submit a poster design for the annual display.

The design, on paper no larger than A4 size, must incorporate the following elements: the colours red, white and blue, the Lions Club logo (see above), fireworks, and The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

There are three competition categories: up to seven years; eight-12 and 12-16 and the winner in each category will receive 10 complimentary tickets to the event, plus £10 gift cards and two Vue Cinema tickets from sponsors M&S Money. The team at The Chronicle will judge the entries in the eight-12 category.

All entrants must write their age, name, address and telephone number on the back of their entry along with their category number and send them to Liz Lewis, Chester Lions Fireworks Poster Competition, Chester Racecourse, Watergate Square, Chester CH1 2LY.

Winners’ names will appear in The Chronicle on Thursday, November 1.

Doors open on November 3 at 4.30pm and there will be a funfair, live music from Junior Parker and Motion Empire, face painters, fire eaters and stilt walkers. There is a toddlers firework display at 6.45pm and the main display is at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £5, with children seven and under free.
