CHESTER Lions Club has celebrated 50 years of service to the city with a golden anniversary gala ball at Chester Racecourse.

The club was formed in 1960 and since then members have raised £2m for charitable causes around Chester.

This year alone the club has raised more than £50,000 from events including the annual fireworks display and the Ladies Drive Challenge.

President Mike Hill said: “Men and women give their time and effort to help the less fortunate members of society by raising funds. I would like to thank the citizens of Chester for their continued support and kind-hearted generosity.”
