A SUPERB pass rate of more than 98% was celebrated at Upton High School.

More than 10% of results at Upton-by-Chester High School hit the heady heights of the new A* grade and a total of 17 students got straight A*/A grades.

Top scorers were Jennifer Hughes and Tim Fozzard, who both scored all A* grades.

Jennifer attained the coveted top grade in biology, environmental science and sociology while Tim excelled in maths, further maths and physics. Tim is going on to read Maths at Warwick while Jennifer is going to Liverpool to do occupational therapy.

Nine students attained two A*s and one A: James Arrich, Laura Beaumont, Emma Bubb, Samantha Blakemore, Philip Cadman, Fern Gibson, Jonathan Johnson, Alex Steeland and Michael Stringer.

Three students gained one A* and two As: Elsa Price, Ben Shepherd and Sarah Young while Mathew Roscoe scored four A grades and Christina Parente and Josh Carvell each scored three.

Alex Steeland has secured her place at Cambridge to read land economy and James Arrich, Christina Parente and Ben Shepherd have all gained places to read medicine.

Another 67 students achieved places at the universities of their choice while some students are still awaiting outcomes or going through clearing. 16 students have won places at Russell Group Universities, the top 20 in the country.

Most subject areas gained A* results but particularly successful were maths and Science this year. There were seven A*s in maths and two in further maths.

Headteacher, Jane Holland, said: “We are truly delighted for our students who have performed well and will be celebrating the rewards today.

“There have been outstanding performances at all levels, the outcome of hard graft from students and teamwork from staff and parents to support students in their studies.

“In these challenging times, we wish all our students every success in securing their university places and we’re pleased to see how many have already done so.”
