A law student from Chester will trek along one of the world’s greatest landmarks to raise more than £3,000 for a children’s charity this summer.

Katie Hill, 20, has already pounded the city’s streets to finish the Chester Half Marathon in her efforts to raise money for Childreach International, but is now busy preparing for a tough nine-day sponsored walk along the Great Wall of China to help provide a much-needed boost to the charity.

Childreach International is a movement of children’s charities working in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the UK.

All money raised will help improve access to schools for children across seven of the poorest countries in the world and help protect their basic human rights to food, water and shelter.

After finishing the gruelling half-marathon in two hours 40 minutes with her supportive boyfriend Liam Ellis pushing her on, Katie, in her first year at the University of Chester, says boosting the profile of the charity is the most important part of all her work.

She said: “Running the half marathon was super tough and I didn’t think I would make it to the end, but I made it and managed to complete it in good time. It felt amazing knowing all my hard work will be helping such an inspirational charity.

“I took on this huge challenge because I felt the charity deserved more recognition for the fundamental work it does. It doesn’t get the cover some of the bigger charities get so I felt I needed to help boost support for it and hopefully help it change the lives of thousands more children.”

Katie, originally from Crosby in Liverpool, is halfway towards her target after conducting raffles and shaking buckets around the city.

Katie and her group will fly out to China on August 299.
