THE historic King's and Queen's Schools Combined Cadet Force in Chester had a special VIP Review Officer this year - Air Commodore Paul Lyall of the Defence Academy of the UK.
He was accompanied by his wife Lynne and they were welcomed by headmaster John Ramsey, headmistress Sarah Clark and the Contingent Commander Squadron Leader Karen Shapland.
As the school military band played, he inspected firstly the Guard of Honour before retiring for coffee and to get a report on the past year’s activities.
After that they toured the different stands set up by the cadets including first aid, signals, a number of initiative tests and improvising building shelters.
Towards the end of the review, it got very wet and some of the events had to be cancelled but the Air Commodore had seen enough to be impressed and at a final indoor parade he had no hesitation in awarding them a top rating award.
His visit concluded with a lunch for also supporting military, both Regular and Territorial, plus the senior cadets.
Pictures from the review will appear in this Thursday’s Chester Chronicle.
