A CHESTER housing scheme manager for the elderly has been recognised for her outstanding professionalism.

Lyn Derricutt, who has been working with the elderly for more than two decades, was short-listed among some of the county’s most dedicated and courageous women at the NSPCC Cheshire Women of the Year 2010 awards.

Lyn was nominated for her work as manager of Muir Group Housing’s Tweedsmuir scheme alongside others who were recognised for personal courage, outstanding professional success and services to the community.

Speaking after the award ceremony at Eaton Park in Eccleston, Lyn said: “To be shortlisted from hundreds of nominations and recognised for just going about my everyday job is a huge honour for me.

“Everyone in the room was deserving of the award so just to be in the company of so many outstanding women was very special.

“Although I didn’t win and have no idea who nominated me, I would like to say a huge thank you to them for taking the time to put my name forward and give me the chance to be treated like royalty for the day.”

For the past 17 years, Lyn has been manager at Muir Group Housing’s sheltered scheme Tweedsmuir at Vicars Cross, which provides safe and secure independent living for older people.

“I absolutely love working with older people,” said Lyn. “The elderly generation has had so many very different experiences growing up and has so much wisdom to offer and many great stories to tell.”
