CITY cats will stay warm and cosy this winter, thanks to kind-hearted staff at a city hotel.

Earlier this month when it was time for workers at the Premier Inn on City Road to replace all the pillows in the hotel, receptionist Naomi Broderick came up with a novel way to make use of the old ones - donate them to Chester Cat Care.

The pet rescue centre, which was set up in 2009, takes in scores of unwanted cats in need of a safe and loving home and is one of the city’s busiest animal shelters.

Despite having more than 30 foster homes across Chester, the post-Christmas period is one of the shelter’s busiest times so the pillows will be much appreciated by the moggies, some of whom are found dumped in freezing conditions.

Tracey Bishop, cluster manager at Premier Inn said: “Our bedding has to be a certain standard so we replace it regularly and we always try to find a good use for the old bedding..

“We like to give back to the community somehow. This year Naomi came up with the idea of giving to Chester Cat Care who take in so many cats in need of shelter.”

Anna Stanley, owner of Chester Cat Care said: “We are so grateful to Premier Inn for the gesture, it is a lovely thing to do.”
