A NEW entrance way and improved sports facilities feature in plans submitted for two single storey extensions at a Chester high school.
Bishops’ High School has lodged plans with Cheshire West and Chester Council for a secure entrance lobby and meeting room in one building plus a new toilet and shower block linked to changing rooms and a fitness suite.
The proposed single storey extension housing the front entrance, with two sets of double doors, will be combined with a wider refurbishment of the existing internal school entrance, providing a safer and more controlled manner of entry to the school.
It will be split into two, one half being a more private space accommodating a meeting room and the other being more transparent with floor to ceiling glazing.
A canopy above the main doors will provide shelter while waiting to enter the building. The doors have been designed to provide easy access for disabled users. The doors can be operated from reception if needed, giving greater control to the school for arrival of visitors during school hours and community use in the evenings.
A recessed mat has been designed to remove water from the soles of shoes and wheelchairs to prevent the spread of water into the reception, preventing a slip hazard.
The proposed second single storey extension to the rear of the school will house new WC and shower facilities linked to a conversion of existing squash courts into two separate changing facilities and a new fitness suite on the first floor.
Access to the area will be achieved within the school during the school day. The facilities are also provided for community use with entry via the wash room in this instance.
