A Helsby man is running this year’s Chester Half Marathon dressed as a giant dog to raise money for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd.

Andy Browne, 43, originally from Belfast, works for a business travel company specialising in the charity sector and has previously completed charity projects including helping fund and work in an orphanage in Kenya and building a hospital in Sierra Leone.

He said: “A friend of mine has previously done a few races as PAWZ (the Hospice of the Good Shepherd mascot) and I took up the challenge as he has done so many!

“Training is going slowly but increasing with the light nights. Not many people do the Chester half or marathon in costume so I am easy to spot!”

Andy hopes to have a number of friends and family cheering him on the day and a few are even helping him train.

The furthest distance Andy has run so far is 10k so this will be his first 13 miles!
