A HAIRDRESSER has been arrested for wasting police time after she alleged she had been held at knifepoint during an armed robbery in Chester yesterday (Tuesday, January 13).

The female employee at Clippers on Lower Bridge Street told police she had a knife held to her throat at the salon during the incident at 1.30pm.

She was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital having suffered a cut to her neck and a 26-year-old male was arrested in relation to the incident.

But after police viewed CCTV footage of the city-centre location, the male helping them with inquiries was released. The hairdresser, from Ellesmere Port, has since been arrested and faces charges of wasting police time and theft.

The woman initially told police that a man had burst into the salon and threatened her with a knife.

It has not been confirmed how she sustained the cut to her neck.
