GROSVENOR Garden Centre is celebrating after one of its qualified horticulturists reached the regional finals of a competition.
James Mabon, 24, of Flint, reached the North West and North Wales finals of this year’s Young Horticulturist of the Year Competition.
James, who qualified as a horticulturist five years ago, was among eight winners from local heats in the contest, organised by the Institute of Horticulture.
In the regional final, James was asked a range of horticultural questions, with three identification rounds to further test the candidates.
James said: “I am thrilled I made it through to the regional finals stage of this competition. Each step was intensive and challenging and I wish the finalists the best of luck.”
Grosvenor’s team of horticulturists was behind James all the way and was delighted to present him with a certificate and cheque for £50 from the Institute of Horticulture as a reward for his success in the regional finals.
Iain Wylie, managing director, said: “James is a highly popular member of the team here at Grosvenor and we are very proud of his achievement.”
