A Chester funeral directors are asking the public to pay their respects to a former soldier who has died with few family and friends to attend his cremation.

Alan Richard Foster, known as Alfie or Foz, passed away on Christmas Eve at The Countess of Chester Hospital , aged 77.

He had served with the 22nd Cheshire Regiment for 22 years where he achieved the rank of Corporal and played the horn in the Cheshire Regiment band.

With only a brother who does not live close by, and few local friends, G&M Goold Independent Funeral Directors where Alfie is currently resting, want to ensure his passing does not go unnoticed, and are asking members of the public to pay their respects to Alfie at his funeral later this month.

Geoff Goold said: "We want to ensure that Alfie gets the send-off that he deserves. We'd love for some of his old comrades and friends to be made aware of this, as well as anyone else who wants to pay their respects to an old soldier who served his country for 22 years."

If you would like to attend, or know someone who would like to pay their respects to an old soldier, Alfie's funeral takes place at Chester Crematorium on Tuesday, January 26 at 10am.
