Flood warnings for the River Dee have remained in force throughout Saturday and into Sunday.
Rescue boats were sent out to Farndon on Friday afternoon after the river burst its banks at Farndon.
The Environment Agency has a flood alert, its lowest level warning, in place, and it is continuing to monitor the situation.
The alert covers the Dee around Shocklach, Farndon, Handley, Lower Kinnerton, Chester and Puddington and was last updated at 11.15am on Saturday.
A flood warning, the higher level warning, is in force for a section of the Dee from Shoklach to Chester - to the south of the city.
A statement from the Agency said: "Levels on the River Dee remain high, and may rise further with continued rainfall over the area. We will continue to monitor the situation and update as required."
Gale force winds are expected to sweep across Cheshire West and Chester during Saturday evening and the early hours of Sunday morning.
The Met Office says gusts of up to 55mph are expected as part of Storm Desmond.
The storm has caused widespread disruption in the Northern part of the UK, including North Wales and Cumbria which have been intense rainfall and flooding.
