The Firs School in Chester has returned triumphant from the Independent Schools Association Art competition held in Rochdale.

This was the regional final and the Firs School received first place for two of the group pieces.

One of the pieces of art was created by last year’s Year 2 class called Olivia the Dragon and the second winning piece was created by last year’s Year 3 class and textile club members called Twists and Turns.

These will now go through to the national finals later this month.

The Northern region represents more than 50 schools so this is quite an achievement.

Headteacher Lucy Davies said: “We are very proud of all our pupils who entered the competition. As well as receiving first prize in two group categories we also received second places for the following categories: junior sketch book – Jonni Ashton, infant drawing – Lola Bowden, early years 2D – India Skyrme-Walker, primary photography – Matthew Taylor.

“Art is a very important part of our curriculum at the Firs School and we encourage all our pupils to participate in the arts.”
