A CHESTER school is to have 11 mini sagas published after winning a national competition.

The Firs School, in Newton Lane, Chester, was approached by the Young Writers Collection to take part in the national competition as part of their English curriculum.

They were challenged to write a 50 word story in their English class on any topic they wanted, as long as it had a structured beginning, middle and end. The sagas were then sent away and the winners chosen, with the other pupils receiving a bookmark for all their effort.

The 11 pupils who will have their work published in The Northern Mini Sagas Collection are Callum Davies, eight, Jessica Reed, seven, James Buchanan, eight, Olivia Pittard-Wheeler, eight, Oliver Roberts, seven, Hollie Willey, eight, Lily Piddington, seven, Iris Reagan, seven, Anmol Sahu, eight, Saffi Gruffudd-Jones, eight, and George Pochin, eight.

The school has a history of being successful in this competiton and headteacher Margaret Denton is very proud of her pupils once again.

She said: “Writing a story in 50 words is a real challenge.”
