Families are invited to go along to a fun-packed Chester Fire Station open day which takes place tomorrow (Saturday, June 11).

Demonstrations will include a house fire rescue with synthetic smoke and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, a chip pan fire and fire crews using cutting equipment to simulate the aftermath of a car accident.

The open day will take place at the St Anne Street station, Newtown, from 11am to 4pm with firefighters and staff on hand to give out general safety advice.

Modern and vintage appliances will be on display, as well as the rescue boat and a specialist appliance from Airbus.

And there will be a chance to see one of two brand new aerial appliances which have just arrived from Germany which will be based at Chester because of the heritage risk to the city’s historic buildings.

Firefighter Pete Owens said: “The open day is a fantastic family day out and a great opportunity for people to come and find out about their local station and what services we deliver to the public.

"People are often surprised to hear about the variety of things we do as well as fight fires and rescue people from road traffic collisions, and the event is an ideal time for us to pass on some vital safety messages.

“The kids will have a great day and it is certainly an event not to be missed.”
