CHESTER FC media officer Jeff Banks had a 40th birthday to remember when he took part in a daring leap in aid of a good cause.

The Saltney man successfully jumped 1,150ft from the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas – the tallest building in the US entertainment capital – in his efforts to raise £1,000 for Ciaran’s Cause.

The charity was set up following the tragic death of seven-year-old Chester FC fan Ciaran Geddes, who died in April last year after playing football with friends.

Jeff was delighted that not only had the jump been a success, he was also on track to beat his fundraising target.

He said: “It was amazing, absolutely amazing. I did it at 3pm, appropriately timed for the football, and was perfect weather.

“I was taken up to the 108th floor and then the lady who was due to go before me bottled it.

“I had a camera attached to my wrist, as I wanted to have the experience filmed – and prove I had done it!

“When I set up the fundraiser I set a target of £1,000, which is about the price to pay for a defibrillator which can be installed in a school. I currently have £900 on my JustGiving page with another £150 to add, which I am absolutely delighted with.

“I am glad I was able to do it for my 40th birthday, and even more so for Ciaran’s Cause. I will be leaving the JustGiving page up until the end of the month and then look to donate what I have.”

PEOPLE can still donate to the fundraising challenge via www.justgiving.com/VegasTowerJump.
